Hull Royal Infirmary cleaners protest over working conditions
- Published
Staff at Hull Royal Infirmary have staged a protest after their union claimed they have to eat and change in cleaning cupboards.
Over 100 workers, mainly cleaners, gathered outside the building to call for better working conditions.
Liz Marshall, regional organiser with the GMB Union, said the staff should be treated with "respect".
Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and cleaning contractor OCS have been approached for comment.
Ms Marshall told the Local Democracy Reporting Service cleaning staff at the hospital had had to "endure years of bad working practices".
"These workers deserve to be treated with dignity and respect and not be forced to get changed in a cleaning cupboard or eat their lunch in a cleaning cupboard."
Separate walkouts from junior doctors at the hospital took place in January over pay.
The strike lasted from 3 January to 9 January and saw doctors walking out of Hull Royal Infirmary, as well as Castle Hill Hospital and Goole and District Hospital.
