Two permit zones will be introduced to help residents find parking spaces

Two controlled permit zones will be introduced in Cleethorpes to make it easier for residents to park.

They will be close to Market Street, the town's main shopping area.

The zones will include resident parking permits, extra no-waiting restrictions and limited one-hour-only parking.

North East Lincolnshire Council decided to go ahead with the zones on 12 February, despite 11 objections from businesses.

One of the permit zones will include Glebe Road, West Street, Charles Street, Kew Road, Crow Hill Avenue and Fairview Avenue.

The other includes Cosgrove Street, Mill Place and Dolphin Street, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

Parking restrictions will be in place from 08:00 to 18:00 GMT Monday to Sunday.

'Seriously damage footfall'

Stewart Swinburn, portfolio holder for environment and transport, said in a report that the scheme is intended to "improve residents' and all road-users' health and wellbeing".

In the latest consultation period, which was last year, 11 businesses objected to the scheme, fearing it would lead to a loss of customers and difficulties with deliveries.

The report says that objectors described the decision to go ahead as the "final nail in the coffin" for businesses.

They also said businesses are "already on the verge of collapse" and that it will "seriously damage footfall" on St Peter's Avenue and elsewhere in the town.

Letters were sent out to residents and businesses affected by the parking zones.

In 2018 and 2019 Kew Road residents submitted formal requests for the resident-parking-permit scheme.
