Cllr Janet Goodwin said she was disappointed with the play equipment at Nunsthorpe Recreation Ground

A councillor says she is "so disappointed" by a new climbing frame installed at a Grimsby play park.

Nunsthorpe Recreation Ground was upgraded by North East Lincolnshire Council (NELC) as part of a £800,000 investment.

Councillor Janet Goodwin said the climbing frame is "half the size" of what it was and that it was not cleaned.

NELC said it was made for toddlers and further improvements will be made.

Last summer, children from the nearby Oasis Academy protested about the state of the play area, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

'Flooring not changed'

Ms Goodwin said: "I went to see it the other day, and I was just so disappointed.

"I even put in an email before full council to say how disappointed I was with the toddlers' play equipment."

She added: "It's virtually half the size of what it was originally. They've not even changed the flooring."

A North East Lincolnshire Council spokesperson said: "The area in which the park in question is installed has been fenced off specifically for toddlers, hence the size.

"Further improvements will include painting of fences and benches through the Pay Back scheme and we hope to add two further smaller pieces of equipment, again tailored to toddlers."

The spokesperson also said there is another area for older children with a new Tec Ball and Fit Pod facility.
