Part of a motorway is being closed over the weekend to allow repairs to a bridge that was hit by a lorry.

The M180 in North Lincolnshire will be completely shut between Junctions 2 and 3 from 20:00 GMT on Friday.

It is scheduled to reopen at 06:00 GMT on Monday 11 March, according to National Highways.

The agency said the closure was to allow the removal of a bridge beam that was damaged when the crossing near Outmill was struck last year.

It warned that delays were expected and asked motorists to consider alternative routes.

Diversions will be in place with directions on the National Highways website, external.

The nearby Humber Bridge's social media account posted that although the bridge was not part of the official diversion route drivers should expect a "significant increase of traffic in the area".
