A man described by police as "Goole's answer to Monty Don" has been charged with drugs offences following a raid.

Humberside Police said officers gained entry to a property on Jackson Street by smashing a window despite attempts by the occupants "to barricade us out".

About 250 plants were seized, with one "green-fingered" suspect later being charged and remanded in custody.

The man is due to appear in court at a later date, a spokesperson for the force said.

In a post of Facebook, they added: "Another green-fingered gardener has been charged and remanded to await their court appearance.

"We're not sure Goole's answer to Monty Don will make it in time for the Chelsea Flower Show."

The seized drugs will be incinerated, police said.
