A fire has broken out in a derelict building in a city centre.

Emergency services were called to Shirethorn House on Spencer Street, Hull, at about 14:30 BST.

Humberside Fire and Rescue Service said there were "multiple pockets of fire" in the three-storey building and 35 firefighters tackled the blaze, which was now under control.

Surrounding roads were closed for a number of hours and people were told to avoid the area.

There are no reports of any injuries.
