An aircraft factory site near Hull with more than a hundred years' history could see another building become offices.

Plans have been submitted to convert a former air cadets' unit at the Humber Enterprise Park in Brough into 16 offices.

It was once part of the larger BAE Systems site, which is still operational.

Wastege Waste Management said it planned to refurbish the building.

Plans for the single-storey building would see it divided into 16 office rooms with a conference room at its centre.

According to planning documents, the building saw the establishment of 1324 Squadron in 1941, which formed part of the Hull Air Training Corps Wing.

The building was also occupied by cadets of the Air Training Corps from 2010 until 2022.

The area of the enterprise park where the building is located can trace its origins back to Robert Blackburn's foundation of an aircraft factory in 1916.

The site of the former Blackburn aircraft factory is now the home of a BAE Systems plant.

Blackburn had specialised in building aircraft for the Royal Navy and his designs included the Cuckoo, the first plane to carry torpedo gear.

Brough became the headquarters of Blackburn between the world wars because of its location close to the Humber Estuary, where waterborne planes could be launched, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
