Hull: WW2 memorial service set to honour civilians

Hull was one of the most bombed English cities in WW2

A memorial service is to be held in Hull to honour more than 1200 civilians who died in the city during World War Two.

Hull suffered 82 air raids in WW2 making it the second most bombed city in England.

The Citizens' Air Raid Memorial Service will be held at the Memorial Cenotaph within Northern Cemetery on 7 May.

The cemetery has unmarked graves were more than 300 men, women and children were buried.

Reverend Stephen Whaley will lead the service which will pay particular tribute to those who died during heavy bombing between 7 and 9 May 1941.

During those three days in 1941, German air raids killed 420 people.

Last year, a new memorial and remembrance area was unveiled to commemorate victims of the Hull Blitz.
