A woman is celebrating 45 years of working at an East Yorkshire supermarket.

Jean Moran joined the Cottingham shop as a teenager on the Youth Training Scheme in 1979.

Now dozens of current and former colleagues and regular shoppers have paid tribute to her.

Ms Moran, who did a six months' trial before being taken on, said: "I didn't think I'd be there that long, but you know the years passed."

She said she still enjoyed the work.

"I think it is the staff and the customers," said Ms Moran.

"You get the customers really talking to you and you hear their life stories sometimes."

The shop, on Crescent Street, has changed hands a number of times and is currently a Co-op.

Co-worker Valerie McDonald posted on social media about the anniversary and said she was inundated with "brilliant comments" from former shop workers.

"A lot of the ladies who commented had started work as young people with Jean and couldn't believe she was still there, she's been a stalwart," Ms McDonald said.

"Just always been kind and a good co-worker."
