Fire crews have been tackling a "large fire" at a recycling centre in East Yorkshire.

Humberside Fire and Rescue were called at 17:36 BST on Tuesday to a fire in the grounds of Allensway Recycling Centre in Howden Road, Holme-On-Spalding-Moor.

The fire service asked people to avoid the area and to keep windows and doors closed.

A spokesperson said the cause of the fire was unknown.

No-one was thought to have been injured, they added.

Twelve fire engines were initially sent to the scene along with a command unit, welfare unit and drone.

The number of appliances was reduced to four after the fire was brought under control, the fire service said.

Allensway Recycling provides a waste management service to organisations and specialises in materials such as plastics, wood, food and general waste, according to its website.

The company has been contacted for a comment.
