A blue plaque in memory of Dad's Army actor John Le Mesurier has been unveiled at his former Ramsgate home.

The actor, who played Sgt Arthur Wilson in the classic BBC comedy, lived at the property in London Road until his death in 1983.

The plaque was unveiled by his widow, Joan Le Mesurier, alongside members of The Ramsgate Society.

The show about the Home Guard during World War II aired from 1968 to 1977 but remains popular today.

Mrs Le Mesurier said: "He was very modest but he would have been thrilled."
