Lead thieves target Burnham Primary School's roof

Lead worth thousands of pounds was stolen from a Kent school in the early hours.

Burnham Primary School has been the victim of four other similar crimes since 22 October.

The school's head teacher Michelle Grima said the thefts had caused a "significant amount of damage" and they were doing their best to ensure pupils were not affected.

The school said it feared water-damaged computers may not be salvageable.

The incident follows a spate of thefts in Kent from church roofs in Charing and Woodchurch over the past month when lead worth almost £9,000 was stolen.

Sgt Kris Eberlein, from Kent Police said: "Unfortunately the rising price of scrap metal makes lead a very attractive commodity for thieves."
