A Kent MP has described a meeting with staff threatened with redundancy at drugs plant Pfizer as positive.

About 60 people attended the meeting, which took place at the Guildhall in Sandwich from 1300 to 1500 GMT on Saturday.

Laura Sandys, the Tory MP for South Thanet, said she hoped to organise similar events in the coming months.

Pfizer has announced the closure of the research and development facility in Sandwich, which employs 2,400 people.

The meeting was also attended by Roger Gale, Charlie Elphicke and Julian Brazier, the Conservative MPs for North Thanet, Dover and Canterbury.

On Wednesday, a task force set up to help the town deal with the closure met for the first time at the Department of Business in London.
