Green energy plant could create hundreds of Kent jobs

Hundreds of jobs could be created if plans to turn a former power station into a green energy park are approved.

As well as construction jobs, the proposed development at Richborough, near Sandwich, could create 60 full-time posts once built.

The 300-acre site could include a recycling facility and a sludge plant to turn food and garden waste into fertiliser using bacteria.

The developers are asking residents to give their views in an online survey.

BFL Management Ltd is also considering using the site as a tyre and plastic processing facility.

It hopes the park, which could also provide direct power to and from Belgium using an underground cable, will provide energy for more than one million homes.

As part of the consultation, the company will hold a public exhibition later this month, before submitting a planning application later in the year.
