Kent schoolboy starts charity football walk from Wembley

A 10-year-old boy who has raised nearly £50,000 for a cancer charity has started a walk from Wembley Stadium to Upton Park.

Jonjo Heuerman, from Wilmington, in Kent, undertook the walk last year to raise money for the Bobby Moore Fund.

The West Ham fan, whose grandmother died from bowel cancer, has called on supporters from other clubs to join him for this year's walk.

The 23-mile walk was started by former West Ham player, Sir Trevor Brooking.

Jonjo said: "Cancer doesn't take sides. It can happen to anyone, like it did to my nan and Bobby Moore who both died of bowel cancer.

"What I'd like is for fans to join me and show that as well as supporting their team, they want to help tackle bowel cancer."

Karren Brady, vice chairman of West Ham United, is also supporting Jonjo's fund-raising walk.

She said: "I'm very impressed by Jonjo's initiative at getting these walks organised and raising such a phenomenal sum of money for the Bobby Moore Fund - no mean feat in this economic climate, and especially when you're only 10.

"His motivational and fund-raising skills seem second to none. I wouldn't be surprised to see him in some kind of boardroom in the future.

Jonjo was waved off by Stephanie Moore, Sir Bobby's widow, on the day before the anniversary of his death.

The 10-year-old is due to complete the walk on Saturday.
