English Channel to be studied as part of European project

Kent County Council has been awarded £128,000 as part of a Europe-wide project to study sea straits.

The Strait of Dover, in the English Channel, is one of the busiest in the world, but is also important for its wildlife and tourism, the council said.

The study is part of a multi million pound EU-funded project, called Nostra, which is looking at seven other European straits.

The General Council of Pas de Calais will lead the project.
