Organisers say they hope the show will open as normal on Saturday

The Kent County Show has closed its car parks to motorists because of muddy driving conditions caused by heavy overnight rain.

The County Showground in Detling, which opened to the public on Friday, has not been closed but new entrants are being turned away.

Up to 25,000 were expected to attend the show on Friday.

Organisers said they hoped the show would open as planned on Saturday and Sunday.

George Jessel, chairman of the Kent County Show, said: "Following extensive work on the car parks all afternoon, we are pleased to confirm the show will be open as planned on Saturday and Sunday."

He said that repairs had been helped by a lack of rain.

He added: "We apologise for any inconvenience but public safety is of paramount importance."
