KLM flies to over 90 destinations from Schiphol airport in Amsterdam

A Kent airport is consulting with residents over a proposal by a Dutch airline to fly two flights per day to Europe.

KLM Royal Dutch Airline is considering operating the flights from Manston to Schiphol in Amsterdam to link with the rest of its network.

Charles Buchanan, chief executive at Manston, said KLM may want to operate early morning and late night flights.

The airport has launched an online survey on the proposal.

Phil Rose, a member of No Night Flights, said: "It [Manston] is out on a limb and in terms of geography for an airport it's an awkward place to be.

"This means that Manston simply does not have enough people living near enough."

KLM flies to more than 90 worldwide destinations from Schiphol, one of Europe's busiest airports.

Mr Buchanan said: "If KLM decides to operate flights from Manston it would mean Kent residents would have easy access to sunny destinations all year round."

KLM has asked Manston to conduct a survey to find out what the level of demand is for the service.
