A 24-hour football match has kicked off in memory of a man from Kent who died after completing a marathon in Dublin.

Ricki Savage, 27, from Ramsgate, Kent, collapsed at the finishing line of the Airtricity Dublin Marathon in October. He died of a suspected heart attack.

Friends have organised a football match in his memory at the Baypoint Club, in Ramsgate, which began at 12:00 BST.

It involves two squads of 50 players who will rotate until the game finishes on Sunday.

Chris Perrin, a friend of Mr Savage who is organising the event, said: "Ricki died after completing one of his ultimate goals, aged just 27, finishing the Dublin Marathon in three hours 10 minutes.

"We are working continually to honour his name and allow him to leave a legacy that raises awareness, and money for the charities close to his and his family's hearts."

He said the event will raise money for the British Heart Foundation and Mr Savage's former Scout group.

His JustGiving page for the marathon in Dublin raised nearly £10,000 in the weeks following his death.
