Bleriot biplanes will join RAF Tornado jets in the flypast over the White Cliffs of Dover

A flypast over the White Cliffs of Dover to commemorate 100 years since the first WW1 aerial deployment has been postponed because of the weather.

The Then and Now flypast of WW1 planes alongside RAF Tornado jets is now scheduled to take place on Tuesday.

Bleriot biplanes will take off from Headcorn airfield and join with the Tornados near Capel-le-Ferne.

The continuing high winds and rain were unsuitable conditions for vintage planes to fly in, the RAF said.

A spokeswoman said: "The end of the tropical storm is still over the Channel, with thunderstorms, rain and high winds expected, which is not ideal for vintage planes to fly in, so we have delayed by 24 hours."

The flypast comes ahead of a special memorial flight from Dover on Wednesday to mark 100 years to the day since the Royal Flying Corps landed at its base in Amiens, France.
