Plans for Thanet Parkway railway station on show

Plans for the new station go on display in February and March

Designs for a new £14m railway station in Thanet with links to London's Stratford International have been unveiled.

Passengers would be able to travel from Thanet Parkway to London in about an hour from 2019, Kent County Council (KCC) said.

The station near Cliffsend would have two unstaffed platforms, a car park and a road connection to the A256 and A299.

Public consultation events beginning in February will be held across Thanet.

The Thanet Parkway project has been provisionally awarded £10m from central government, with the council committing a further £1.5m.

David Brazier, the Conservative cabinet member for environment and transport, said: "Discussions are under way with other parties to fill the £2.5 million funding gap.

"Our plans are at an early stage so the exact location, layout and appearance of the station, car park and access arrangements may change.

"We now want to hear what local residents and businesses think."

Public consultation events are to be held in Ramsgate, Sandwich, the Discovery Park and Herne, between 12 February and 4 March.
