A 16-year-old boy has died after collapsing at a young offender institution, the Ministry of Justice has said.

Caden Stewart died in hospital after falling ill at Cookham Wood, near Rochester in Kent on Thursday.

His death is not believed to be self-inflicted and is not being treated as suspicious.

The Prison Service said there would be an investigation by the prisons and probation ombudsman.

Correction 6 August 2019: An earlier version of this story incorrectly reported that the boy had died at Cookham Wood.
