The mother of a seven-year-old boy who was killed in a suspected hit-and-run crash in Kent has shared her gratitude following her son's funeral.

Laura Brown, the mother of William Brown, has said she was "overwhelmed by the love and support" at his funeral on Saturday.

William was hit while walking in Sandgate Esplanade in Folkestone on 6 December.

Hundreds attended William's funeral at St Mary and St Eanswythe Church.

Ms Brown said: "I haven't ever seen the church so full, it was wonderful to see - you could feel the love in there".

"I've had so many messages, its just been human nature at its finest, everyone has come out to support and honour and respect William," she added.

King Charles granted special permission for William to be buried at his local church as it is no longer used for burials.

Ms Brown explained William had "found it peaceful when he sat underneath the chestnut tree," where his body is now laid to rest.

Ms Brown said she was grateful to the King and the local community for supporting their request for William to be laid to rest at his local church.

She thanked King Charles for taking time out of his Christmas holiday to "make this miracle happen for us".

Police said a 49-year-old man was arrested following the incident and was placed on bail while the investigation continues.
