Stefan Farbrother was sentenced to 18 years in prison

A man who subjected a child to sexual abuse during the 1990s has been jailed.

Stefan Farbrother, who was living in Sevenoaks, Kent at the time, was convicted of a string of offences, including multiple rapes, over a period of five years.

Det Sgt Adam Ferguson from Kent Police said Farbrother, 47, subjected the victim to "the most appalling and terrifying campaign of abuse".

At Maidstone Crown Court, he was sentenced to 18 years in prison.

'Catastrophic effect'

Concerns were initially reported to Kent Police in 2018, which led to the arrest of Farbrother in June that year.

An investigation resulted in him facing 13 charges, including seven offences of rape and multiple indecent assaults, relating to incidents between 1991 and 1997, police said.

Farbrother, who was later living in Stanningley Road, Halifax, West Yorkshire, denied any wrongdoing but was convicted by unanimous verdict on all counts.

He was sentenced to 18 years' imprisonment and added to the sex offenders register for life.

Det Sgt Ferguson said Farbrother used violence and threats, which included restraining the victim with handcuffs and holding a knife to their throat.

"The abuse has had a catastrophic effect on much of their adult life, but I do hope they can now move forward from this knowing Farbrother will be serving a lengthy prison sentence," he said.
