A jury has been selected in the retrial of a man accused of manslaughter after a boat got into difficulty in the English Channel, leaving four dead.

Ibrahima Bah - who Canterbury Crown Court heard was piloting the boat - denies four counts of manslaughter and a charge of facilitating a breach of immigration law.

The small boat ran into trouble off the Kent coast on 14 December 2022.

The trial is expected to last up to five weeks.

On Monday, the jury was told Mr Bah's defence is likely to be that he was acting under duress.

The judge, Mr Justice Johnson KC, said: "The events may well give rise to strong emotions.

"You will appreciate it is vitally important you judge the case according to the evidence, not on the basis of a response to an emotional reaction," he added.

The prosecution will open its case on Tuesday.
