An attempt at filling a record number of pancakes in a minute was staged in Rochester

Events have taken place across south-east England to mark Pancake Day.

In Kent, there was an attempt to set a world record for the most number of pancakes filled in one minute.

In Brighton, BBC Radio Sussex's breakfast presenter attempted to create his dish in an air-fryer.

Even one of the region's rail operators entered into the spirit, with a temporary name change from London St Pancras to London St Pancake on an electronic noticeboard.

Southeastern marked the day with the name change, as well as adding the ingredients needed.

The world record attempt was staged at Jaggers Restaurant in Rochester and raised money for the city's Wisdom Hospice.

'Bubble up nicely'

Manager Kav Kaur said: "What we've got to do is fill them with approximately half a banana, chocolate sauce and then roll them on the plates.

"A drop of beer in the batter is very helpful, it helps it bind together and bubble up nicely.

"It's about taking part and raising as much money as we can for the hospice."

The attempt to set a new Guinness World Record fell short, with 14 pancakes filled in a minute, three short of the target.

Meanwhile, an event in Guildford, Surrey, also raised funds, with the pancakes used to raise money to help a homeless charity.

Organiser John Redpath said: "We're giving them away, but we hope people will donate.

"All donations will go to the Street Angels, who look after the streets of Guildford over the weekend."

BBC Radio Sussex presenter Danny Pike experimented with an air-fryer, comparing the results to a pancake cooked in a traditional pan.

He decided the pan was better.

"It's a pulpy, liquidy, gooey mess," he said of the air-fryer attempt, "and it's taken ages as well.

"It's got some crunch, but really doughy in the middle. For me, the pan wins."
