A man has suffered a leg injury after another man fired a crossbow at him in a Kent town.

Police said the victim was walking in Victoria Street, Gillingham, on Thursday when the suspect fired a small, black crossbow at his leg.

An ambulance was called and he was treated at a local hospital before being discharged.

Officers said the offender left the area after the attack and have appealed for information.

PC Stuart Drakeley said: 'We do believe that the offender will have been walking in the area and it is likely that the crossbow would have been visible as it was too big to conceal in a bag.

"We also believe that the suspect and victim are known to each other."

He asked anyone who was in the area between 15:00 GMT and 19:00 GMT and had information to contact police.
