Two companies are to be prosecuted after a worker was injured at a nuclear power station.

The contractor sustained serious injuries to their foot while working near to the main cooling water discharge valves at Dungeness B power station in Kent.

The incident was a conventional health and safety matter and offered no radiation risk to the public, the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) said.

The incident happened on 13 June, 2022.

The decision to begin legal proceedings follows an investigation into the incident by the ONR.

EDF and Trillium will be prosecuted under Section 3(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974, the ONR said.

The first hearing is scheduled to take place at Folkestone Magistrates Court on 19 March.
