From profanity pillows to swearing table cloths the group's embroidery will be displayed until 24 March

A group of women in Kent who combine swearing with stitching have opened two exhibitions for their embroidery.

The Profanity Embroidery Group (PEG) in Whitstable has been meeting since 2014 to sew profanities onto pillows, blankets, tablecloths and other items.

Co-founder Wendy Robinson said it was a space for women to support each other through "the ups and downs of life".

The displays in Margate and Ramsgate will be on until 24 March.

Ms Robinson said the group was "a really good split between people who can swear really well, and those who can sew really well".

"It is a group of women coming together, getting to know each other, and supporting each other through all sorts of ups and downs in life."

Co-founder Wendy Robinson said "the group helped us all relax in numerous ways”

In collaboration with the Thanet Power of Women Festival, the exhibitions will feature work on the theme of rest.

Annie Taylor, the other co-founder, said the embroidery was an opportunity to explore serious topics in a light-hearted way.

"It's amazing what you can do with a bit of humour and profanity," she said.

Alison Fitzgerald, a member of PEG, said: "All the things that women go through, you have this group you can share with.

"Whether it's menopause, relationships, looking after kids, ageing parents - we all for the last ten years have been going through these things together."

The Profanity Embroidery Group's exhibitions will be showcased at the Hotel Selina in Margate and the Albion House Hotel in Ramsgate.
