A young woman from Lancashire who was murdered for dressing as a goth is being remembered at a football match.

Sophie Lancaster, 20, was kicked and stamped upon by two youths in a Bacup park on 24 August 2007 as she cradled her battered boyfriend, Robert Maltby.

A minute's silence will be held ahead of Bacup Borough's game against Ramsbottom United at the Brian Boys West View Stadium on Wednesday night.

Players will also wear wristbands in honour of Miss Lancaster.

The captains will also wear a T-shirt designed by Mr Maltby during the silence and warm-up ahead of the game.

Miss Lancaster slipped into a coma after the attack and died later in hospital.

Mr Maltby survived and has made a partial recovery.

Ryan Herbert and Brendan Harris, both from Bacup, were jailed for life in 2008 for Miss Lancaster's murder, and for causing grievous bodily harm to Mr Maltby.

They were both 15 at the time of the attack.

Three other youths - brothers Joseph and Danny Hulme and Daniel Mallett - were jailed for attacking Mr Maltby.
