Kirkham stream baby death police in leaflet appeal

Police are making a renewed appeal for information after a baby boy was found dead in a stream in Lancashire.

Officers are handing out leaflets at a car boot sale at Greenhalgh Farm, not far from the spot where the child was found in Spen Brook last Saturday.

The leaflets show photos of a fleece hooded top and two towels found with the baby in the brook near Kirkham.

Tests showed the infant had probably been there for two to four weeks but it is not yet known how he died.

Lancashire Constabulary have appealed for a girl who was seen pushing a pram in the area to come forward.

The girl is described as being in her late teens, 5ft 5in tall (1.6m), with dark hair pulled into a ponytail and wearing dark trousers and a zip-up top.

She was seen on a dirt track near Carr Lane, Kirkham, at about 19:00 BST on Monday 26 September or Tuesday 27 September.

Officers were handing out the leaflets at the sale between 10:00 BST and 13:00 BST on Sunday.

Detectives said they hoped it would lead to more information and said even the smallest pieces of information may prove crucial in finding out exactly what happened.
