Lancashire police and crime commissioner candidates

Clive Grunshaw from the Labour Party has been elected as Lancashire's first police and crime commissioner (PCC).

AFZAL ANWAR - Liberal Democrats
Afzal Anwar specialises in criminal defence
The Liberal Democrats put forward Nelson barrister Afzal Anwar, external as their candidate for the PCC election.
Mr Anwar, who stood unsuccessfully at the 2010 General Election, was the party's only nominated candidate.
He specialises in criminal defence and has worked on high-profile criminal cases including the Rhys Jones murder trial in Liverpool.
TIM ASHTON - Conservative
Tim Ashton said he would be critical but supportive of the chief constable
Lancashire county councillor Tim Ashton, external, who was cabinet member for Highways and Transport, stood as the Conservative candidate.
Mr Ashton said if elected he would provide good policing and be "critical but supportive" of Chief Constable Steve Finnigan.
"I will lead the force with firm direction while letting the chief constable manage the operations," he added.
Mr Ashton has stepped down as cabinet member for Highways and Transport to concentrate on the PCC elections.
ROBERT DROBNY - UK Independence Party
Mr Drobny is currently serving as a councillor on Preesall Town Council
Robert Drobny, from Knott End, was chosen by UKIP to be their candidate for the role of Lancashire Police and Crime Commissioner.
Mr Drobny is currently serving as a councillor on Preesall Town Council and has been Deputy Mayor of Preesall on three occasions.
He said serving as a special constable in Blackpool gave him "a good grounding for life and a thorough understanding of the needs and requirements of the police".
CLIVE GRUNSHAW - Labour
Clive Grunshaw stood as a Labour parliamentary candidate
Labour candidate Clive Grunshaw, external, from Fleetwood, is a former chair of resources for the Lancashire Police Authority.
Mr Grunshaw was a parliamentary assistant to Joan Humble MP before he went on to stand himself unsuccessfully as Labour's parliamentary candidate for Lancaster & Fleetwood in the 2010 General Election.
He said if elected he would ensure the force was accessible, fit for purpose and able to deliver the protection, security and service that the people of Lancashire "want and deserve".
