Blackpool's Marton Mere reserve gets £330,000 grant

Marton Mere is nationally recognised for its bird populations, project organisers said.

A nature reserve in Blackpool is to build a new visitor centre after getting a £330,000 grant.

Marton Mere will also renovate existing hides, as well as improving feeding and nesting sites for birds.

The three-year project with the Heritage Lottery Fund cash will begin in January.

Blackpool Council said it will also feature new education and training programmes.

Blackpool Environmental Action Team Nature Watch group will carry out the works, alongside other groups and volunteers.

Marton Mere is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest and is a habitat for other animals such as otters and bats, as well as dragonflies and butterflies.
