Sir Tom Finney played his entire career at Preston North End

The civic funeral of Sir Tom Finney will be broadcast at Preston North End's Deepdale ground, Preston City Council has confirmed.

The England and Preston North End winger died on 14 February, aged 91.

His funeral service will take place at 13:00 GMT on Thursday at Preston Minster.

The council said the funeral cortege will be accompanied by a mounted police escort and met by military veterans to acknowledge his wartime service.

Free tickets

The city council said fans at Deepdale will need a ticket to watch the funeral of Sir Tom who played 76 times for England and spent his entire career with the Preston club.

Tickets, which are free, are available from PNE's club shop.

The cortege will pass Preston North End's ground at 12:15. It will head to Tithebarn Street to be met by police on horseback.

It will be met outside Preston Guildhall by representatives from the Preston and District Veterans Association before its scheduled arrival at Preston Minster at about 12:50. The service is due to start at 13:00.

Preston City Council said Church Street will be closed to traffic and pedestrians during the service.
