Chorley Council agrees traveller site despite residents' fears

Chorley Council has approved a location for a traveller site in the town despite residents' fears the number of people would "grow out of control".

Councillors agreed to earmark land off Cowling Road near an industrial estate, even though there were 89 objections including a 327 signature petition.

Residents were also concerned about noise and the impact on local businesses, the council report said.

The council must develop traveller sites under national guidelines.

The land off Cowling Road for the permanent site is now subject to approval by a planning inspector.

If permission is granted, a planning application will be submitted to develop the council-owned land.

There were 31 submissions in support of the site, which would be developed by 2026.
