Chorley campaigners stage Coppull Library protest

A comedian, an actress and an MP are among dozens of people who joined a fancy dress protest to protect a library from closure.

The sit-in demonstration was held at Coppull Library in Chorley, Lancashire, on Saturday.

Lancashire County Council plans to reduce the number of libraries from 74 to 34, saving £7m.

The libraries involved have not yet been identified, but there are fears Coppull Library will be among them.

Among those attending were comedian Dave Spikey, Chorley MP Lindsay Hoyle and former Emmerdale actress Kay Purcell.

Spikey tweeted:, external "We all have a serious obligation to save our libraries. It's a no brainer. Please support."

There were also poems and stories and people were being encouraged to dress as their favourite fictional characters.

Lancashire County Council is running a consultation, external ahead of its budget being set.
