Arrest after Blackburn sex attack victim 'left for dead'

The attack happened opposite the entrance of the Suez Recycling depot

A man has been arrested after a woman was sexually assaulted and left for dead in the street.

The 33-year-old victim was attacked by a man who approached her from behind off George Street West in Blackburn on Saturday night.

She was left unconscious in the street with a fractured jaw and suffering from a bleed on the brain.

The 22-year-old suspect from Blackburn is being held on suspicion of rape and section 18 wounding with intent.

Lancashire Police said the woman had been "left for dead" following the "extremely brutal attack".
