Scott McKay called 999 after realising he was trapped inside the pharmacy

An "extremely inebriated" burglar who helped himself to drugs from a pharmacy had to call the police for help when he realised he could not escape the shop.

While Scott McKay prised open the metal window bars to enter Geloo Brothers Chemist on Cleaver Street, Blackburn on Wednesday he was unable to climb out.

The 43-year-old, who had swallowed tablets from the shelves, was decidedly the worse for wear when police arrived.

McKay, of no fixed address, was jailed for 26 weeks by Preston magistrates.

Police said firefighters had been called to help an "extremely inebriated" McKay, who admitted burglary, out of the store.

The medication taken by him is not known.
