Firefighters are tackling a large "deep-seated" blaze at a landfill site in Lancashire which is creating huge plumes of smoke.
The fire started at Quercia Limited's site off Dawson Lane, near Buckshaw Village, before 00:15 BST, Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said.
Fifteen fire engines were at the scene and crews were expecting to be at the site for the rest of the day.
Nearby residents have been asked to keep doors and windows closed.
Incident commander Mal Dewhurst said: "We estimate approximately 6,000 sq m of surface area of the landfill is affected by the fire.
"There are areas that we know it has gone deep-seated."
The fire service said crews were working with the Environment Agency and other local authorities with support from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service.
Dawson Lane remains closed.
