Felipe Figueiredo claimed self defence, Lancashire Police said

A man has been convicted of murdering a 15-year-old boy in a row over a stolen motorbike, police have said.

Dylan Bragger was stabbed at least 23 times in Digmoor Road, Skelmersdale, in June 2023, in the "brutal attack", Lancashire Police said.

Police said Felipe Figueiredo, of Skelmersdale, denied murder claiming self-defence but he was found guilty by a jury at Preston Crown Court.

The 28-year-old is due to be sentenced on Friday.

Emergency services were called to Digmoor Road shortly after 21:00 BST on 29 June following reports of a stabbing.

Police said Dylan had suffered multiple stab wounds and was pronounced dead shortly after officers arrived.

Detectives launched a murder inquiry which revealed the movements of Figueiredo, of Birleywood, who witnesses said confronted Dylan and another man over a dispute about a stolen motorbike.

CCTV caught Figueiredo leaving his home on the evening of the murder after he received a text message stating the motorbike stolen from his property the previous evening had been seen on the Birleywood estate.

Police said Dylan sustained at least 23 injuries to the head, neck, chest, back, abdomen and arms in the attack.

Figueiredo returned home just over half an hour later and called police at 21:30 to hand himself in, before armed officers arrived to arrest him.

He later claimed he stabbed Dylan "a few times" in self-defence, police said.

The Lancashire force said the jury rejected that claim, after hearing the volume and extent of Dylan's injuries as well as being shown evidence inconsistent with Figueiredo's recollection of the attack.

Det Ch Insp Andy Fallows said: "This is an utterly tragic case in which a 15-year-old boy with his whole life ahead of him has had that abruptly snatched away."

The teenager's family previously described Dylan as a "gentle giant" and said: "He was just a 15-year-old lad working towards being a car mechanic with his whole life ahead of him."
