Nelson: Illegal vapes and tobacco seized in shop raids
- Published
Nearly 600 packs of illegal tobacco and £9,000 worth of vapes have been seized following tip-offs.
Oversized vapes were among items confiscated during a series of raids in Nelson, trading standards said.
The vapes are "potentially dangerous" as they may contain different amounts of nicotine to what is stated on the packaging, the council said.
Police said children and teenagers are tempted to buy them because they are cheap.
Councillor Michael Green, Lancashire County Council's cabinet member for health and wellbeing said the joint operation was a result of information from residents.
"Our Trading Standards team will continue to keep seizing illicit tobacco and non-compliant vapes and will take any necessary enforcement action against traders who continue to break the law," he added.
