A section of Burnley FC's stadium had to be evacuated after a strip of metal was spotted hanging from roofing during the team's Premier League clash with Wolves.

It meant fans in Turf Moor's Jimmy McIlroy stand had to be moved.

Some seating was cordoned off by stewards during the first half of the match, which finished in a 1-1 draw after play continued as scheduled.

The club thanked fans and said repairs were under way.

"Because of a minor structural issue with the roofing of the Jimmy McIlroy stand we made the decision, as a precaution, to move a section of the supporters from the seating underneath that area of the stand," a statement read.

"The safety of supporters is always our highest priority and we thank them all again for their patience and understanding."

The club added it was confident the issue would be resolved in time for the next home match against Brighton on 13 April.

Supporters affected were offered complimentary food and drink and "a full credit for a future match".
