The officer spotted the black Polo in Fred Pickering Place

A police officer has been hit by a stolen car while he was carrying out investigations into the vehicle's theft.

He saw the black Volkswagen Polo in Fred Pickering Place, Blackburn, at about midday on Tuesday, shortly after it was reported stolen.

The officer went in front of the car to speak to the driver, who "deliberately" drove at him, Lancashire Police said.

He fell on the bonnet and then to the ground before the car hit a Seat Leon.

The officer was taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries, which are not believed to be life-threatening.

It happened as police were investigating reports the mobility car, with the registration PF73 FJX, had been stolen between 26 March and 2 April.

The driver of the stolen Polo is described as being white, slim, aged between 15 and 17, and having blonde-brown curly hair and eyebrows.

His three passengers are also described as being white and aged between 15 and 17. All four were dressed in black.

No arrests have been made yet. Police appealed for information as they continue their search for the stolen car.

They urged people not to approach the vehicle or its occupants if they see it.
