The Railway Children is BBC Radio Leeds' top film

Oakworth station is a star of the film

BBC Radio Leeds listeners have voted The Railway Children their favourite West Yorkshire film.

The winning 1970 picture will be seen at a celebration of film at Leeds' magnificent Hyde Park Picture House on Tuesday, 19 April.

The film, chosen from a shortlist of six classics shot in West Yorkshire, beat Billy Liar to the top spot.

Sally Thomsett, one of the film's stars, said: "It was always my favourite film.

"I remember such happy times. To win the favourite film is the icing on the cake.

"My love and gratitude to all who voted."

Breakfast presenters Katherine Hannah and Martin Kelner will show the winning film.

The six films, each representing a different decade of film were:

• Room at The Top (1959)

• Billy Liar (1963)

• The Railway Children (1970)

• A Private Function (1984)

• LA Without a Map (1998)

• The Damned United (2009).

The Railway Children

First there was the book written by Edith Nesbit and published in 1905.

It tells the story of a family who are forced to move to a house near a railway line when their father is arrested on suspicion of selling state secrets.

Then there were TV versions followed by the well-loved 1970 film, starring Jenny Agutter and Sally Thomsett alongside Bernard Cribbins.

Another star of that film is definitely the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway and the line's Oakworth station.

Once again the film will pack an audience into the distinguished cinema in Hyde Park.

The seats will be filled with hundreds of Radio Leeds listeners who applied for free tickets to the special screening.
