Sir Jimmy Savile raised millions of pounds for charity during his lifetime

Fans of Sir Jimmy Savile will be able to pay their respects to him at a Leeds hotel before his funeral next week.

Sir Jimmy's closed coffin will be on display at The Queens Hotel on Tuesday before a Requiem Mass at St Anne's Cathedral at 14:00 GMT the next day.

The Jim'll Fix It and Top of the Pops presenter, who died at his home in Roundhay, Leeds, at the weekend, will be buried in Scarborough next Thursday.

He owned a flat in the seaside town and spent much of his time there.

Ivar Van Diepen, general manager at QHotels which runs The Queens, said: "We're honoured that The Queens is the venue for people to come and pay their respects to the late Sir Jimmy Savile.

"Further details of the arrangements will be provided later this week."

Sir Jimmy's funeral cortege will be driven through Leeds on its way to St Anne's Cathedral, passing by his childhood home on Consort Terrace, and by Leeds General Infirmary.

'Yorkshire character'

Meanwhile, two West Yorkshire MPs have paid tribute to Sir Jimmy, tabling a Commons motion praising his "enormous contribution" to charity.

Fabian Hamilton, Labour MP for Leeds North East, and Greg Mulholland, Liberal Democrat MP for Leeds North West, tabled the Parliamentary motion, saying he had raised "millions" for charity during his lifetime.

They described Sir Jimmy, 84, as "an essential Yorkshire character".

The pioneering disc jockey was born in Leeds and lived in the city his whole life.

In their Commons motion, Mr Hamilton and Mr Mulholland said Sir Jimmy "brought smiles to the faces of children who appeared on Jim'll Fix It".

They added that they had "enjoyed his choice of music during his time as a disc jockey".

The motion concluded with "condolences and sympathy to family and friends in Leeds, Yorkshire, the UK and throughout the world".
