Bradford Moor school's governors to be replaced

All the governors of a Bradford primary school are to be removed after being criticised by Ofsted inspectors.

Bradford Moor Community Primary School was marked as "inadequate" in a report, external published on Monday.

It specifically criticised the governors for not monitoring "teaching and achievement effectively".

The council has made an application to the Department for Education to replace the current governors with an interim executive board.

Councillor Ralph Berry, who holds the portfolio for children's services, said the council "had a duty" to intervene in and support failing schools.

"We've done this at a number of schools over the years and it has proved quite effective," he said.

In its report, Ofsted praised current head teacher, Janet Relton, who joined the school in September 2012.

Inspectors also said pupils were starting to make progress, thanks to changes she had made.

The interim executive board will be made up of people who have been specifically chosen to help the school improve, according to Mr Berry.
