Labour hold Leeds council seat in by-election

Labour has held the Cross Gates and Whinmoor ward of Leeds City Council following a by-election.

Debra Coupar won the council seat with 2,481 votes. The UK Independence Party (UKIP) candidate came in second place with 1,582 votes.

The Conservatives were third with 587, the Greens took 229 votes and the Liberal Democrats 145.

The election was held following the death in February of Labour councillor Suzi Armitage in February.
