New plea over Leonard Farrar murder in Leeds in 2002

Leonard Farrar's murder is being handled by the major investigation review team

A fresh plea for information has been made by detectives investigating the murder of a 71-year-old man in Leeds 11 years ago.

Leonard Farrar, a retired merchant navy captain, was found dead at his home on Cardinal Road, Beeston on 4 May, 2002.

A West Yorkshire Police inquiry was started but no one has been brought to justice. It is now being handled by the major investigation review team.

Officers urged "people who have remained silent" to come forward.

Mr Farrar had been repeatedly stabbed in what police described as a sustained attack.

His body was found a day after his Fiat Panda car was discovered burnt out near his home.

Det Ch Insp Paul Fountain said: "Someone out there knows who killed Leonard Farrar.

"Over time allegiances can change and people who remained silent for over 11 years need to come forward and help us give Mr Farrar's family closure."
