M-way drivers secretly filmed by police to cut crashes

Dangerous drivers are to be secretly filmed by police to try and cut the number of crashes on motorways in West Yorkshire.

Officers will be driving an HGV with a dashboard-mounted camera to film motorists around them.

They will be watching for lorries tailgating other drivers, drivers using mobile phones and those eating and drinking whilst driving.

Police said if it prevented one accident it would have been a success.

Ch Insp Mark Bownass, from the roads policing unit, said: "Motorway units in unmarked vehicles will be patrolling as well looking for dangerous drivers in cars and vans."
