Steeton street name stand-off to be resolved

A stand-off between councillors over the naming of seven roads that has held up mortgage applications for would-be homeowners is set to be resolved.
Properties on the development, in Steeton, near Keighley, have been sold but the loans have not been granted.
Bradford City Councillors Adrian Naylor, an Independent, and Conservative Andrew Mallinson, have put forward two separate sets of names.
A decision will now be made at a meeting of the Keighley Area Committee.
In a report to be presented to the committee council officer Andrew Gornall said: "The delay in addressing this site is causing disruption to the developers and vendors.
"Plots on this site are being sold but mortgage applications are being held up by the Land Charges process as the searches do not have addresses for them to complete their part in the process."
Mr Naylor, together with Steeton Parish Council, wants to name the streets after trees and shrubs, as put forward by a council officer, while Mr Mallinson put forward names of Shire horse and rare farm breeds.
Both parties agree one of the seven roads on the 209-house development will be named after former councillor David Emmott who died in 2005.
Developers of the Thornhill Road site Redrow Homes had wanted to name the streets after French towns in tribute to the Tour de France.
The race is set to pass by Steeton as riders race from Harrogate to Leeds in next year's event, but the proposal was rejected.
